Placer County's season opens just before Thanksgiving. About 60 growers farm the foothills around Newcastle, Penryn and Loomis, mostly the cold-tolerant Owari Satsuma.
The Mountain Mandarin Festival began as a one-day event in Newcastle in November 1993. The 2026 festival is listed for November 20-22 at The Grounds in Roseville.
